Margarita Georgitseas, M.A., is a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University. She has master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University and Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. She is currently in her fifth year of clinical training and her research focuses on the impact of emotional avoidance on individuals’ emotions and self-esteem.

Most recently, Margarita worked at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Gouverneur Behavioral Health, where she trained in and practiced Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Although her work is grounded in psychodynamic and relational principles, she incorporates DBT principles like mindfulness, emotion regulation skills, and dialectical thinking into her work. Margarita believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for successful therapy. She takes an open, non-defensive approach so that clients can process their experiences in a safe, supported, and empowering way.
