Dr. Alpern completed her B.A. in Psychology and Art History, magna cum laude, at Georgetown University. She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. She trained at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Alpern’s postdoctoral fellowship at the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center at Barnard College included specializations in late adolescence, early adulthood, and trauma.
Dr. Alpern has specialized, post-graduate training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International. She is an EMDRIA-certified EMDR clinician, and is a graduate of the EMDR Clinical Affiliate Program at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) Trauma Treatment Center. Dr. Alpern serves on the Executive Committee of the Integrative Trauma Program at NIP. She is also a special adjunct clinical professor at LIU Brooklyn.
